A general thought on Creative Thinking Lesson.

 After two months of attending lessons for creative thinking, I would not say I learnt a lot in this lesson, certainty not nothing.

 I think that the module can be shortened and more intensive, compress the content of the lesson(for example ppt?). There are videos that can be watched during lesson time rather than at home, giving personal thoughts in class may help in better understanding in the gist of the videos, I do agree that some of the video that was being recommended are interesting and inspiring.

 Like what we learnt in this lesson, creative thinking can be a type of skill that we can pick up by learning, we need to think creatively in many expects. I think this is just the start for us to begin our journey to think creatively, or in some cases, different than the others. 

 We can have so many interesting thoughts on our mind, but yet, no skill to create and express them out, maybe creative thinking can be a elective lesson for year 2 students, whoever thinks they are weak in generating ideas should take up the module.

 Generally I had a fun time with the lecturer and classmate in these few weeks, it would be an unforgettable start in my NAFA life. :D

Lesson reflection on Force Connection(2)

Again, at the 10th week, we talked about force connection.

 During this lesson, we talked about the designing of product, the selling of ideas, how do we create new ideas and make others willing to investigate on it.

 Nowadays, Children no longer play with toys, what takes over is the technology that is being over used, the kids play with computer games and Ipad, rather than to play with friends outside to enjoy a more lively childhood.

 I don’t think anyone should be blame in this case, the world is changing, it is up to us to decide how are we going to raise our next generation, some choose to give the child lesser attention by giving electronic devices for the kid to explore, some spend their time with the kid to have quality time, encourage them to explore the outside world.

In this current world, we can get a job, but we may not be able to sustain it. Due to our lack of abilities in my own opinion.

At the later part of the lesson, our group had the task to design a product that is either a toy for a child, or a kitchen appliances.

Below is what my group come up with. 

 It is a blender that come with a base that accept different size of container, different sized container is suitable for blending different substances.

 While the rod in the middle allow us to make changes to the types of blades, for example, the smaller and softer blade for blending food together rather than crushing them, the blade that is longer and sharper for blending ice and fruits, another type of ‘blade’ that can use to blend cake mixture, last but not least, the one that can be use to clean the container itself.

 Basically a multifunction blender that can be use to blend various substance and can clean itself.

After I got home, I thought about another idea on kid’s toy, which requires the kid to insert the flowers into the pot, with the flower name labeled on them, when all the parts have been put in the right place, the small door on the pot opens and give the kid a treat(May be candy). 

  In conclusion to this lesson, we should always come up with new ideas that maybe useful and fun, creating multifunction items can save us time and space while doing something. We should connect things together to generate creative outcomes.

Lesson reflection on Force Connection(1) + video reflection

During this lesson, we questioned and discussed on what is force connection, it is basically connecting two or more subjects together to form a new product, the outcome may be quite fascinating and useful. After all, life is all about trying.

Another key work we talked about during the lesson is cross-fertilization. In this case, it means the union of concept or ideas previously regarding as unrelated. How is this useful? In my own understanding, the union of unrelated subject that joined together may create a contrasting effect, it would be up to the human mind to relate and link them together, making them interesting to us. In some cases, the subjects that are combined together can be linked, just that we did not notice that before we forcefully linked them together.

During the lesson, we also did internet research on hybrid objects.

BBC documentary - Horizon: The Creative Brain How Insight Works.

This video generally talks about how our brain works when we come up with creative ideas, it explained on the function of our left and right brain, like what the video said, during a flash of insight, the left does not really react, but the right side does.A striking increase in brain wave call gamma wave irrupt at that spot, as there is a structure difference between the two.

The video also shows the experiments they done with passerby to study how our brain works. I personally like the experiment when they give three people the same task at first, ask them to think as many solutions as possible, then give them something else to do, a task that requires a bit of brain work, a task that requires a lesser amount of thinking, also the task that gives the most amount of freedom. 

It interest me after the three participants done with the second actions they are asked to do, the person who generate the most idea in the end, is the person doing the task that requires a lesser amount of thinking. This can be applied to our studies as we should do a break that draws our attention to something else, not so intensive or boring, then go back to work again. This may give a better result than intensive thinking with no break given.

Lesson reflection, Lets talk about TENSION！

During this lesson, we talk about the ongoing tension between ppl, there are tensions that we can’t avoid.

The class searched on an 'Hong Kong is not China': Artist's illustration, which is an illustration made by Hong Kong Artist, clearly bias.

 We had a brief discussion in class, on whether if the content of this post is true. 

 The artist started of by differentiating the two lands, drawing a clear boundary between the two by saying Hong Kong is not China. 

 He pictured China citizen as uncivilised rude mannered selfcentered people who sleep in subways and stand on toilet bowls, criticizing Chinese citizen as people having glass heart that is too weak to undertake criticism, while the Hong Kong people have a normal heart, etc etc... 

 In my own opinion, there is undeniable difference between the two lands, but they should not be seen as two totally different nations, with obvious good and bad.

There is different types of people in both Main Land and Hong Kong, it is only the proposition of good and bad that differs, I don’t see one superior than the other. 

 I do understand that part of the public from Hong Kong have this hatred feeling toward main land due to political and personal reasons, there are traits in the main lander that is morally unacceptable for them, for example the general lack of manners, while such hatred undermines their ability to think rationally. It is thoughtless and rude to hasty generalize others’ behavior with stereotype.

 Which I have a very high tolerance for stupidity and rudeness, would still say this kind of stereotype is purely boring and lack of taste, the artist is having a complacent attitude, obviously seeing Hong Kong as a better place than China. I found his Facebook page online, he is even printing and selling copies of these, shipping them worldwide. 

 Wow...there is people willing to pay, in deed, the essence of the dumbness in the human spirit is normally found in the faces of the crowd.

 In conclusion, I really find it weird when things are being  ‘classify’ into groups with the same label even when there is exceptional case. I do understand putting things in extreme end is easier, lesser thinking is required, it is also ones’ freedom to do so. Still, I find this entirely boring and offensive to some people, seeing no benefit in spreading such stereotypical idea. It is almost a form of racism.

 We should avoid such tension, rather than spreading or escalating it.

Reflection for week 7 on 31st august！Analogical thinking :D

Week 7’s lesson is pretty much base on Analogical thinking, which is a type of thinking that relies on analogy, and analogical reasoning is to accept similarities between two systems to support the conclusion that some further similarity exists.

Similes and metaphors, including analogies, are ways to describe an object, to add feeling towards an object, to make them seem lively, so that the others would have a better understanding towards the subject.

During the lesson, I learnt that there are different types if analogies, like personal, direct, fantasy and symbolic, these four different techniques allow us to describe art in various approach, adding stronger emotions in our language, enhancing our description skill.

Below is a evaluation I wrote during the lesson.

‘An sad eyeball that have been left on the floor for too long, which contains all kinds of bacteria which causes a sour taste, weird smell with sticky juice. ’

Also, a personal analogy for a earpiece, which contains the feeling of being very long, wanting to be shorter, likes to talk or sing, but not in loud noises, good at whispering in others’ ear, like to tangle itself and enjoy the feeling of being untangle, have a sad but fragile personality.

I personally think that by being descriptive will definitely help in explaining our ideas, which will be useful in art, which, language art itself is a form of art.

Battle Royale Reflection, great movie!

Battle Royale

The general story line of this movie, is about the Japanese government putting a class of high school students into an island, forcing them to fight each other to death in three days, there should be only one survivor left at the end of the three days, if not they will all be killed by the explosion of headband they are wearing. This program is called Battle Royale, in short, the BR program.

This movie is labeled as R15 for its violence scene, but the main focus of this movie should be the humanity shown rather than the violence and blood.

There are two other characters that is not from the original class but added to the game, they joined the game under their free will. Kazuo Kiriyama, whom just wanted to kill people, and Shogo Kawada, whom survived the previous BR program, wanted to find out what is the true meaning of the smile of his girlfriend whom died in his arm(but killed by him as she shot him first).

The two main characters Shuya Nanahara and Noriko Nakagawa did not do much in the movie, they did not try to kill others but to avoid it, they got help from Shogo Kawada, who basically knows and prepared for everything, that is also the main reason why the two survived till the end.

The students made different decisions in this situation, some choose to kill themselves, out of pride, like Sakura Ogawa, she threw her bag that contains supplies in the first place, and Kazuhiko Yamamoto(Sakura’s bf), he jumped down the cliff together with Sakura, from the reluctance he had shown in the movie, I suspect he died out of fear and peer pressure from Sakura rather than pride.

Student like Takako Chigusa did not even seem to be affected by the game, she was jogging like how she usually do, but this time, the boy she like was not cycling behind her. She only died when Kazushi Niida, a guy that liked her wanted to have sexual intercourse with her hurt her face, she stabbed him to death and then shot and killed by Mitsuko Souma.

Which we can now move on to my favorite character, Mitsuko Souma. The girl who tired to kill the others from the very start, she did not struggle mentally to kill, she was determined and strong. She was in state of mind for a reason, she was sold to a old man for sex by her own mother when she was still a kid(about 7 to 9?), she did not give in, instead she pushed the man down the floor. This line from her really moved me, ‘You just have to fight for yourself; no one's going to save you. That's just life, right?’.  Also, at the end of the movie, there were this scene where by the boys in the class a are playing basketball, all the others are cheering and having fun, she was into the game and staring at the side. When the game ended, all the classmates where screaming and laughing for the players, but all she do was looking at the crowd with that reluctant look and walked away, she is not used to participate in such activities, she could not blend in, she isolated herself from the others. No one was born to be cruel and strong, it was her tragic pass experience that have shaped her that way. 

Well, the moral of the story may be that, some people who have hope and love in their heart my survive till the end, like Shuya Nanahara and Noriko Nakagawa, even Takako Chigusa, she was completed unaffected till the point she stabbed and killed another person. Kazuhiko Yamamoto died after he found out the true meaning of his gf’s smile, his mission have completed. Some refuse to give in and choose to run away (aka committing suicide) like Sakura and her boyfriend Kazuhiko Yamamoto. Mitsuko Souma and Kazuo Kiriyama was also killed despite being two of the strongest characters, which shows that strength and power does not mean everything.

The teens in the island are like everyone in the society, we are forced to do things we do not like, we have to compromise to situation, even to hurt others to survive.

Generally, this movie is not about how to kill people, but how to survive.

Buildings with funny faces around the city area & Around my house.

The stove, does not looked pleased.

The ground under my block, having a shocked look with mouth wide open.

From a stone in my house, having a ghostly feeling that have lots of stories to tell.

The sink in my house, like a person who have not slept for 48hrs, as if there is blood vessels seen in the eyes.

A box from the supermarket below my block, really cute looking, looks like a kid who is very forgetful.

This is all I got, I would say interesting art are all around us, we have to notice them and feel them on ourself.
